Gross Domestic Product by the Gold Standard

Had US GDP per worker since 1969 continued to grow at a rate equivalent to its growth rate between 1776 and 1969 (or for that matter at a rate equivalent to European Christian countries over the last two millennia), it would have been 3.8 times higher in 2001.  Rather than being only $68,000, it would have been $258,400, which would have given us a GDP per worker twice that of Japan.  Our GDP wouldn't have grown as much as Japan's grew during that time, because in 1950 our GDP per worker was 5 times that of Japan, but that would have been a GDP of $34.2 trillion which would have enabled us to have retained our status as having the world's highest GDP per capita as well as GDP per worker.

Where did that $25.2 trillion go?  Did it all go to global economic competitors like Japan and Germany and other emerging economies, or did it just evaporate?  Considering that this $25.2 trillion is more than four times greater than Japan's entire GDP, it would appear that most of this economic productivity just evaporated rather than escaping to foreign shores.

What contribution did women play in this evaporation of US productivity?  Women were only 33% of the US labor force in the 1960s but by the 1990s they were 46%, a disturbing 1.4 TIMES increase.  Where there would have been only 43 million women in the labor force in 2001, there were 60 million, which is an *extra* 17 million women.  And what did these extra 17 million women contribute to productivity? IF the evaporation of $25.2 trillion in GDP was due exclusively to their participation in the labor force, then their per capita net contribution to GDP was a negative $1,482,353--almost a million and a half dollars each.  This isn't hard to believe if you realize how costly affirmative action, the Equal Pay Act, and sexual harassment and discrimination litigation has been to American companies, something none of our foreign competitors have to worry about.

IF this reduction was due exclusively to these extra women workers (and even though they are the primary problem, there ARE other factors), then their negative contribution to GDP was 21.7 times greater than the current GDP per worker of $68,000 and 18.8 times greater than the current average contribution of men to the US labor force.  When other factors are considered, like the artificial increase in the number of blacks and Hispanics in the labor force through affirmative action, then it takes the productivity of 14 men workers to make up for the negative contribution to productivity of one additional woman worker.

One of the reasons for this rapid increase in the percent of women in the labor force is affirmative action coupled with federal sponsorship of women owned businesses which employed 7,076,081 women in 1997.   Thus 42% of these *extra* 17 million women in the labor force worked for firms "owned" by, or at least partially controlled by, women.  5,417,034 women owned firms employed 6% of American workers but their payroll of $149.1 billion was only 1.7% of GDP, or $21,071 per employee per year, which is 31% of the average GDP per American worker that year.  Certainly women who earn less than a third as much as average GDP per worker because they work for women cannot claim "discrimination" by men, nor can they claim that every possible measure had not been taken to make these women owned businesses profitable.  Even with all the extraordinary measures which were taken to establish and sustain women owned businesses, their average receipts were only $151,000 which is only one quarter of the average receipts for men owned businesses of $582,500.

Clearly this many unprofitable businesses with so many low paid employees is a major contributor to this $25.2 trillion shortfall in US GDP, particularly in light of the sparsity of such businesses in 1960.  Such social engineering by the federal government not only failed to improve the lot of women, but it wiped out three quarters of their (and their men's) economy.

Is it simplistic to blame this all on government? No.  Even though 65-92% of Americans consistently demonstrated from poll to poll that they OPPOSE federal meddling like affirmative action, only ONE politician, California Governor Pete Wilson, took a brave stand against it.  The entire rest of the federal government continues to march in lockstep with affirmative action as if though the will of the voters is irrelevant.  This $25.2 trillion shortfall is exclusively in the domain of government.  But why did our own government accept such largesse for so long without taking massive corrective action, and instead tried to blame it all on dirt farmers in Afghanistan?

The woman voter!

Men as a group are now being denied the right to vote, because women constitute 15% more of the voters.  And the way women vote is based on emotion rather than on reason.
