Does Nomos Mean Torah?
For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed [read: destroyed]. Malachi 3:6
And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever [read: for eternity]. Jesus replied, "And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? Matthew 15:3Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye. Mark 7:13 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. James 2:11
The Greek word "nomos" [#3551] appears 197 times in the New Testament, translated as "law" 195 times and as "laws" twice. The word "anomia" [#458] appears 17 times: twice as "law", 9 times as "iniquity", 3 times as "iniquities", and once as "transgresseth".
The words "law" and "laws" appear in the Old Testament 304 times, translated from "torah" [#8451] 219 times, "kallah" [#3618] 17 times, "chathan" [#2859] 32 times, "chathan" [#2860] 5 times, "cham" [#2524] 4 times, and "choq" [#2706] 4 times.
The Torah is defined in our dictionaries as the first five books of the Holy Bible, yet there's no direct reference in the New Testament to the concept of "torah"--unless the Greek word "nomos" means "Torah".
The following versus suggest that neither Jesus, nor Luke, nor Timothy, nor Paul, nor Matthew, nor Mark even begin to suggest that a tittle of the Torah should ever be changed:But heaven and earth will come to an end before the smallest tittle of The Nomos may be dropped out. But we know that the Nomos is good, if a man use it lawfully;1Ti 1:8
For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the Nomos: but if thou be a breaker of the Nomos, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision, Romans 2:25Do we then make void The Nomos through faith? By no means: but we establish The Nomos, Romans 3:31 But the Nomos is holy, and its orders are holy, upright, and good. Rom 7:12 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love [is] fully preaching the Nomos, Rom 13:10
Do not think that I am come to destroy The Nomos, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy, but to fully preach*, Matthew 5:17 [red letters]You know the commandments: `Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.' Mark 10:19 [red letters]
In the above context, can "Nomos" be anything other than a direct reference to the Torah? There are verses where Jesus, when talking to the jews, uses "Nomos" to refer to "your law":
Joh 10:33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. Joh 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your Nomos, I said, Ye are gods Joh 8:13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true. Joh 8:17 It is also written in your Nomos, that the testimony of two men is true.
Mat 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
Mat 11:13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
Mat 12:5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless
Mat 22:36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
Mat 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Mat 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Luk 2:22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

Joh 1:17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Rom 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
