The Holy Bible Regarding Slavery

If thou buy a Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing, Exodus 21:2

Lev 25:44 Both thy slave men, and thy slave women, which thou shalt have, [shall be] of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy slave men and slave women.

Lev 25:45 Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that [are] with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession.

Lev 25:46 And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit [them for] a possession; they shall be your slaves for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour.

Strong's Concordance defines the Hebrew word "ebed" as follows:

H5650 ebed

From H5647; a servant: - X bondage, bondman, [bond-] servant, (man-) servant.

Not included in this definition, of course, is the word "slave".  As a result, none of the 801 occurrences of the word "servant" in the Holy Bible ever appear as "slave" in the KJV [read: King James translation], seriously distorting the beliefs of the Israelites towards slavery.

Strong's includes the definition "slave" for the Hebrew word "amah" which appears in the Holy Bible 519 times, but never does it occur as the word "slave" in the KJV, instead translating it as "handmaid", "maid", "maidservant", "bondwoman", "handmaiden", and "bondmaid".

Apparently a primitive word; a maidservant or female slave: - (hand-) bondmaid (-woman,) maid (-servant).

Strong's includes the definition "female slave" for the Hebrew word "shipcha" which appears 62 times in the Holy Bible, but never does the KJV use this word, instead translating it as "handmaid", "maid", "maidservant", "womenservant", "handmaiden", "maiden", "bondmaid", and "wench".

H8198 shiphcha^h

Feminine from an unused root meaning to spread out (as a family; see H4940); a female slave (as a member of the household): - (bond-, hand-) maid (-en, -servant), wench, bondwoman, womanservant.

The word "slave" appears only two times in KJV where it is translated from the Greek word "soma":

G4983 soma

From G4982; the body (as a sound whole), used in a very wide application, literally or figuratively: - bodily, body, slave.

Conversely, the word "slave" appears 294 times in God's New Bible, 281 times in the Contemporary English Version, 248 times in God's Word, and 141 times in the Revised Standard Version.
