John 3:16, only begotten son vs firstborn son

And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn: Exodus 4:22

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:16-18

The jews brutally murdered and crucified Jesus because they claimed, without proof, and no trial, that He claimed to be the "only begotten Son" of God, so it's vital to put what Jesus said in context with what we know He must have been quoting.

No other person in Scripture is ever referred to by God as "my firstborn" other than Jacob.  Such a title implies that there were or will be other offspring of God besides Jacob. Jesus confirms, though, that Jacob was not only "my firstborn", but was also "His only begotten Son".

Had Jesus also referred to Jacob as God's firstborn, just as God did, then we could conclude that there were or would be others begotten of God.  But His use of the term "his only begotten Son" means three things:

  1. Jesus was referring to Jacob, not Himself.
  2. There are no others begotten of God.
  3. Jacob was both God's firstborn and God's only begotten.

We realize that "firstborn" and "only begotten" stem from two different and almost conflicting actions:

  1. Begotten.
  2. Born.

A child is begotten of the father, and nine months later is born of the mother.  A firstborn son could be and usually is the first of several or many other sons.  But an only begotten son is both the firstborn son, and the only one begotten by that father.   Jesus simply could not have been referring to Himself as be the "only begotten Son" of God if Jacob is God's firstborn son.

So the only conclusion can be that the jews were LYING, Jesus was telling the truth, that Jesus was referring to Jacob and not Himself, and Jacob was both the firstborn and the only begotten son of God.

Yes, God DID give His only begotten son so that "the world through him might be saved".  But in this context, and knowing the history of the Israelites and their accomplishments in battles over their numerous enemies, the world [read:   "kosmos"] was saved, but only from an Israelite perspective, and certainly not from a Canaanite, or a Moabite, or an Ammonite, Egyptian, Assyrian, nor Babylonian perspective.

Is this confusing?  Of course.  Even Israelites are confused by it.  And certainly the jews can CLAIM they were confused by it even though they also claimed they were "sitting in the seat of Moses" and were supposed to know things like this.   Why did they not know things like this, or at least pretend that they didn't know, and murder Jesus on false pretenses?

Because they were Edomites who HATE Israelites, not fellow  Israelites themselves, and Jesus EXPOSED this about them.
